Author Biography

Barry P. Boden, MD, is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon with fellowship training in sports medicine and arthroscopic knee and shoulder surgery. He participated on the varsity soccer and track and field teams at Haverford College and then completed medical school and both his general surgery internship and an orthopaedic residency at Temple University in Philadelphia. Dr. Boden continued his training with a fellowship in sports medicine at Duke University, where he served as the assistant team physician for the varsity athletes. Francis G. O'Connor, MD, MPH, associate professor at the Uniformed Services University and medical director for the Consortium on Health and Military Performance, has been a leader in sports medicine education and research for the military for over 15 years. Dr. O'Connor has authored over 30 articles in scientific journals and numerous book chapters/technical reports/health promotion resources for the military. Robert P. Wilder, MD, is an associate professor of physical medicine and rehabilitation at the University of Virginia. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Dayton, where he ran cross-country for the Flyers, serving as team captain in 1983. He received his medical degree from the University of Virginia. Following a residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, he completed a fellowship in primary care sportsmedicine at the Nirschl Orthopaedic Sportsmedicine Clinic and the Virginia Sportsmedicine Institute.
