Summary

American Heritage contains a comprehensive collection of the best poetry previously published in three volumes, "Beyond Darkness and Light," "Guardian Angel" and "American Heartland Poetry". Roy Peterson is the quintessential poetry and prose author hearkening back to the great poets in the Pantheon that is the American Heritage of Poetry. Compare his works to Wordsworth, Longfellow, Poe, and Frost for subject variety, style variations, and readable yet complex thought integration making him the poet of and for everyone.

Excerpts

IF I WERE AN ANIMAL, WHICH ONE WOULD I BE? By Roy E. Peterson (April 4, 2012) If I were an animal, where would I be? Down on the ground or up in a tree? Perhaps in the sky flying in a vee? Or swimming around down under the sea? If I were an animal, how would I hide? Perhaps in a burrow where I could abide. A good camouflage I sure would have tried. Or hidden myself down under the tide. If I were an animal, what could I do So I could avoid the fate of a zoo? Run faster than wind, fly high in the air? Use razor sharp claws, or have teeth that can tear? If I were an animal, who would I be? A soft Teddy Bear, so soft and snuggly. With a mistress to carry me under her arm To hug me a lot and keep me from harm.
