Author Biography

William J. Murnane was born in New York in 1945 and studied at the Oriental Institute of the University of Chicago. A prolific writer, he became Professor of Ancient History at the University of Memphis, Tennessee, and field director of an ongoing project devoted to recording and publishing the reliefs and inscriptions in the Great Hypostyle Hall of the Temple of Karnak. He died suddenly in 2000.
