A Different _Pointe_ of View is a memoir. It is a parent_s memoir, a mom_s memoir. Unlike most memoirs by mothers, it is not an inspiring book about coping with a child with serious mental and/or physical limitations. By contrast it is a memoir about parenting a child whose potential soars _ and in a different direction than that of his parents! My purpose then, is two-fold: to inform and to entertain. First, parents may find inspiration to help their children find their dreams and to nurture those dreams, whatever they may be. Second, it serves to answer all those questions that people have about the peculiar life of a long-distance parent of a child in an elite ballet school. As a side benefit, I hope this book will give all parents some insight into what it_s like to live with a child whose dreams are very different from their own _ or from what they might have imagined for their children. It_s one thing to be a hockey fan and to raise a son or daughter who seems to be interested in the game. It_s quite another issue to find that your child_s dream is very unexpected. Perhaps it will also help those offspring who felt as if they were from a different world than their parents to understand better what their parents might have felt.
