A celebration of architectural excellence, this monograph presents the work of Bijoy Jain and his team at Studio Mumbai Work-Place in India. Bijoy Jain's efforts to create buildings of cultural and ecological significance are displayed in five residential buildings built in the tropical state of Maharashtra, on the coast of the Arabian Sea, and in the Himalayan Mountains. The book also features an interview with master carpenter Jeevaram Suthar and an accompanying essay by Jain about Studio Mumbai's moral and ethical approach to architecture and carpentry.
The Wood in Culture Association is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the use and image of wood, as well as the quality and versatility of buildings and products made of wood. It also annually presents the International Spirit of Nature Wood Architect Award and the Spirit of Nature Awards to those whose work exemplifies architectural excellence in the progressive and creative use of timber. The association is located in Helsinki, Finland.
