Presenting a detailed overview of the theory of Bit-Interleaved Coded Modulation (BICM), this book will present the tools for the analysis and design of future BICM systems. It will give detailed explanations of all the functioning principles and design options used for BICM and will describe and demonstrate the developed tools that aim at refined probabilistic modeling of the reliability metrics. The exchange of these, the so-called L-values, is at the core of BICM systems. Since the L-values are random variables, understanding of their probabilistic models and the way these signals are generated and processed is crucial to the analysis and design of the BICM transmission. Iterative receiver structures are also developed in detail.
