Gr 4-6-The purpose of this book is to aid youngsters in developing their own opinions about this topic. Refugees are defined according to the 1951 United Nations Refugee Convention as those who have fled their country and are unable to return due to a "well-founded fear of being persecuted for reasons of race, religion, nationality, membership of a particular social group, or political opinion." A distinction is made between refugees, internally displaced persons, and economic migrants. The author uses illuminating statistics to summarize the plight of individuals in various geographic areas and times.
