Offers tips on working through problems with friends and discusses how to make friends if you are new to a school or shy, the effects of teasing, and how to resolve differences with friends without fighting. Gr 1-4-Anger management, arguments with friends, jealousy, and bullying are among the subjects addressed in these titles. Chatty texts keep the content interesting, and cartoon children with dialogue balloons add interest to each situation. Each book includes four scenarios. For example, in Friends, "Mister Bossy" attempts to push kids around on the soccer field. In a "Talking It Through" section, a teacher, friend, and parent all give the aggressive boy advice. "Bossy leaders are not good leaders," instructs his mom. Lewis explains how he resolves his problem on a notebook-paper illustration. Each title concludes with a quiz to check for understanding. Unfortunately, life's problems are not always so easily resolved, but the texts could be useful starting points for further discussion. Talking things out, no matter what the problem, is the main focus. Effective titles best suited for one-on-one sharing or a classroom setting.-Cynde Suite, Bartow County Library System, Adairsville, GA Copyright 2004 Reed Business Information. |
