The opening paragraphs of each entry present current details that are followed by a more general, concise biography. The authors state that 75-80% of the material is new, even if the subject was discussed in earlier editions. It is necessary, therefore, to read previous editions of the series to get a comprehensive picture of the person. The conclusion of each entry provides suggestions for further reading. Black-and-white photographs are included for many of the people. The volume concludes with cumulative alphabetical and occupation indexes to the entire series.
