CD-ROM reference aid in the basal morphology of human blood cells. For clinicians, research technicians, physician assistants, and students. Previous edition: c1997. System requirements: Windows 3.1 or higher, 3MB free space.
Our red and white blood cells are produced in the bone marrow and undergo considerable differentiation before released as mature blood cells into the blood stream. The precursors of the cells have characteristic recognizable forms, which can be used for diagnosis of several diseases. This atlas is a collection of colored plates, which illustrate the differentiating blood cells. The capacity of the CD-ROM disk is 217 MB, but only 3 MB of free disk space is required for installation; it runs mainly from the CD-ROM. The display device driver must be set to High Color mode. After clicking on the Setup icon, an executive file is downloaded and the reader has to press the Start button for entering the atlas. Various menus are used for viewing the differentiating and mature blood cells, accompanied by texts, which describe the special features of the individual cells. Selected blood cells can be compared side by side, and the images edited, or printed. A Search program is included, along with a Glossary and Index. The Manual is provided by the Help menu. The reader can evaluate his/her knowledge by undertaking a detailed Test. This Atlas-CD-ROM is useful for physicians specialized in blood cells or working in hospital laboratories.Reviewer: Michael Bárány, Professor, Emeritus, University of Illinois at Chicago Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology,
