Chemical Fungal Taxonomy is the first book to present in one volume various biochemical and physiological developments in fungal taxonomy, written by 24 scientists and researchers. The areas of coverage of the 14 chapters is indicated in the Table of Contents. The three editors, authorities in mycology and microbiology, have selected new developments that reflect progress in the systematics of fungi.Practical applications of fungi are very significant in industry, food science, medicine, and biotechnology. In addition, fungi cause disease in humans, plants, and animals. For these reasons the correct identification of a fungus species is very important. Presenting different techniques used in the systematics of fungi, Chemical Fungal Taxonomy, also, provides accounts of methods employed. These techniques and methods provide current knowledge. Each chapter contains an extensive list of literature sources and collectively nearly 1,700 references provide avenues for further reading. An index, cumulatively treating topics in all of the chapters, concludes the volume. A timely and comprehensive treatment on chemical fungal taxonomy, this book is appropriate for university, health science, and industrial libraries as well as researchers and students of systematics in mycology, botany, and related fields.Reviewer: William Burk, Botany/Zoology Librarian, University of North Carolina--Chapel Hill Couch Biology Library, billburk@email.unc.eduCopyright 2000 YBP Library Services |
