SummaryAuthor Biography
The American Revolution was fought mostly through relatively brief and limited engagements. In the South, the Battle of Cowpens was one of the most influential. On December 16, 1780, General Nathaniel Greene divided his forces, ordering Daniel Morgan west of the Catawba River in South Carolina. Uncertain of the Americans' intent and fearful for the British-controlled area of Ninety Six, Cornwallis ordered General Tarleton to engage and push out Morgan. This action divided the British army, as Cornwallis had to protect Camden, Georgetown, and other British posts to the east from possible attack by General Greene. More, the American maneuver prevented Cornwallis' full force from advancing north. The battle that resulted, between Morgan and Tarleton, came at Cowpens, and at the battle's end, Tarleton's British and loyalist forces were destroyed.

With superb maps and text including extensive quotation of the soldiers, the reader is directed through the strategies and maneuvers of the battle. The work is an invaluable resource for any military historian or America

With superb maps and text including extensive quotation of the soldiers, this guide reveals the strategies and maneuvers of the battle.
