Several years ago the "pet rock" was something of a joke. However, since the publication of Wellford's first book The Art of Painting Animals on Rocks, pets on rocks have become a reality. This book is devoted entirely to domestic animals painted with amazingly realistic detail on small rocks. The projects use smooth river rocks painted with acrylics or outdoor patio paint and finished with a spray-on sealer, and the poses are designed to fit natural contours of the rocks.
