An Atlas of Shoulder Arthroscopy is a companion volume to the text An Atlas of Shoulder Surgery published three years ago. This specialized textbook was edited by three physicians along with the consultation of sixty-three medical specialists from the United States and Europe. The atlas includes all the more common shoulder arthroscopy techniques. In many instances two or more techniques recommended for the same condition are described (in an attempt to promote the view that there may be more than one treatment for the same problem). The intent of the editors is to encourage or inspire surgeons to develop new techniques, modify current techniques, or devise expanded uses for the existing techniques. The arrangement of the text is from a general approach, discussing the history of arthroscopy and the basic science of the shoulder and its treatment, moving on to the arthoscopic techniques. A few of the numerous shoulder conditions discussed are: SLAP lesions, labral tears, rotator cuff tears, periglenoid ganglion cyst decompression, calcific tendinitis and treatments for osteoarthritis. Many arthroscopic images, color photographs, and black and white drawing accompany the text, which is printed, on high quality glossy paper. Post-operative protocols and current reference lists conclude each chapter.Recommended for orthopedic surgeons specializing in shoulder problems, medical libraries, and academic libraries with premedical or medical curriculums or physical therapy programs.Reviewer: Eileen Heaser, Reference Librarian, California State University at Sacramento Library, eheaser@csus.edu Copyright 2004 E-Streams Reviews. |
