Viollet-le-Duc was one the grand masters of architectural history and in the excerpts reprinted here, the reader can trace the archictural developments - religious, secular and military of the Medieval Period.

The book is illustrated with copious line drawings of various architectural styles and developments. In the absence of the original complete dictionary, this book is a wonderful primer on the subject.
