SummaryTable of Contents
Hundreds of color photographs, many taken especially for this book, reveal distinct interpretations of the lighting fixture. From the absurd to the noble, the examples in 50 Lights: Innovations in Design and Materials were chosen from the production of the past decade and are presented in a clear, graphic style with intentionally minimal text. In this book, even traditional table lamps have been reassessed and reinterpreted. Other designs have been inspired by the availability of certain materials (some designer self-created) and the newly developed technologies of the past 20 years. However, there are others that incorporate materials of little or no worth. The 50 fixtures here range from the sophisticated, intricate, and expensive to the sensible, minimal and cheap. Some have been seriously conceived while others are merely throw-away aesthetic gestures. They sit on tables, hang from ceilings, mount on walls, and, in one case, do not exist at all as a tangible object.
