Summary

Everything network pros must know to build service-aware WANs/MANs with Cisco's new ASR 1000 series routers- The ASR router family is the future mid-range routing platform for Cisco.- It has been adopted very quickly, and is well on the way to becoming Cisco's bestselling routers.- Leverage the ASR 1000's revolutionary architecture to dramatically improve performance and availability.- Written by one of the Cisco engineers that helped develop the ASR1000 system architecture.Building Service-Aware Networks is the only practical, hands-on guide to thebreakthrough ASR 1000 Series family of service aggregation routers from Cisco. In this book, the author systematically explains the ASR 1000's radically new architecture, demonstrating how it can deliver major performance and availability improvements in tomorrow's increasingly complex, collaborative, mobile, and converged network environments. Next, he covers everything you need to know in order to move from evaluating the ASR 1000 through successfully integrating and using it. This book serves as the first all-in-one knowledgebase for simplifying the insertion of ASR 1000 routers into existing enterprise and service provider networks. Author Muhammad Afaq Khan covers the entire system lifecycle, including planning, initial setup and configuration, migration, day-to-day management, using the CLI and GUI, and troubleshooting. To help you plan your network deployments more effectively, he walks through realistic deployment scenarios for IP routing, IP services, wide area data services, security services, and unified communications. He also presents a wide variety of configuration examples for enterprise and provider networks, presenting everything from CLI command snippets to best practices for system troubleshooting and management.
