Author Biography

Author Jay ôRandyö Gordon is what those in the marketing, entertainment, and sports business call ôa-Doer.ö For 15 years, Randy has read and authored marketing documents, attended many conferences, led meetings, and conversed with many people in person and over-the-phone to record business buzzwords and catchphrases during his B-school days and while working at some of America's top companies, including The Coca-Cola Company, Sony Computer Entertainment America, Universal McCann, and Ubisoft Entertainment. He brings to the table a unique and humorous look at the world of business jargon, catchphrases in the workplace, and general mucky-muck speak. He is from Birmingham, AL and resides in Marin County, CA just outside of San Francisco.J. Randy Gordon most recently worked for experiential marketing agency ignition, Inc. on Sony Pictures Digital business (and the Ford-sponsored Fusion Flash Concerts Summer music concert series), and he has consulted in the past for Adscape Media, GameLive Events, Telltale Games, and Red Bull's Ad Agency of Record Kastner & Partners. He has sold pre-movie trailer cinema advertising space to videogame companies and their ad agencies (for then Regal Entertainment's Group's Regal CineMedia), and he served for over two years as Vice President of Marketing Services for Ubi Soft Entertainment, a French-based developer and publisher of PC and videogames. In a working capacity, Randy brings proven process and a wealth of creativity and contacts (from both sports and entertainment). He operates under a unique style of sales-driving thoughts, big ideas with a promotional / PR slant, a keen sense of how to initiate and leverage relationships with other marketers, and a refreshing leadership role that fosters team play where he empowers those with whom he works to get things done. Randy authored ôGimme Fiveö for Inside Sports magazine October 1989 issue (a unique look at the beginning, meaning, and implication of ôthe high fiveö in sports and our culture), and Randy has been the subject of 2 business articles: (ôMarketing Continues at InterActö (MCV Weekly) and ôThis pixel brought to you byàö (Shift Magazine from Canada) which discusses logo branding within games. He did just that for 2 years as Manager of (In-Game Branding) and Consumer Promotions for Sony PlayStation (SCEA) from 1997 to 1999.In May of 2000, Randy Gordon joined the U.S Headquarters (San Francisco office) of Ubisoft Entertainment as Director of Brand Development and Promotions. His primary role was to ôplusö marketing and promotional efforts and to fortify branding initiatives. Prior to his work at Ubi Soft, Randy served as Director of Marketing for InterAct (at one time, the world's leading manufacturer and seller of videogame peripherals / accessories and the GameShark product line). Having also formulated ôin-game brandingö and cross-promotional programs at Sony Computer Entertainment America (as Manager of Consumer Promotions), Randy built a solid reputation of productivity within the videogaming space after only starting in April of 1997.His work experience in marketing covers the gamut. He served as Manager of Sponsor Partner Development for The Coca-Cola Company (and the Coca-Cola Olympic City theme park) leading up to, during, and after the Summer Olympic games in Atlanta, worked in Newport Beach for renowned sports agent Leigh Steinberg overseeing the daily management of the U.S. World Cup team, worked as Marketing Manager for EA SportsLab / SportsLab, Inc. and spent 2 years in advertising (account management) for Universal McCann (New York, NY) where he serviced the ESPN account (Bristol, CT), as well as for Bates USA (New York, NY) in media planning for M&M/Mars (Hackettstown, NJ).Randy received his M.B.A. (1993) from The Anderson School (U.C.L.A.) and his B.S. in Business from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (1989). A Board Member (June 2001-2002) for the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences, Randy remains a member as he has since 1998, and he served as Executive Committee Member of the Oakland Alameda County Sports Commission which was one of three finalists out of eleven cities vying to host Super Bowl 2005.
