Summary

She was a perfect baby, and she had a perfect name. Chrysanthemum. When she was old enough to appreciate it, Chrysanthemum loved her name. And then she started school. "I'm named after my grandmother," said Victoria. "You're named after a flower." Chrysanthemum wilted. Life at school didn't improve. In fact, it got worse. Then the students were introduced to their music teacher, Mrs. Twinkle. Mrs. Delphinium Twinkle. And suddenly, Chrysanthemum blossomed....

"... language and humor are impeccably fresh, his cozy illustrations sensitive and funny, his little asides to adults an unobtrusive delight." - Kirkus Reviews (pointered review)

"Chrysanthemum exemplifies Henkes's talent for creating true picture stories for young audiences."- The Horn Book (starred review)

Delightful May 16, 2011

It's a wonderful story about being proud of who you are regardless of what others think of you. It deals with the elements of peer pressure that all children will face at one point or another and shows how easily views are swayed. I think this textbook is good for 3-8 years' old readers. I absolutely love this textbook. It's a great story with a wonderful lesson. It's one of my top five children's stories.
