Author Biography

William B. Trattler, MD, is currently practicing at the Center for Excellence in Eye Care specializing in refractive, corneal, and cataract eye surgery and is a volunteer assistant professor of ophthalmology at the University of Miami’s Bascom Palmer Eye Institute.     

After graduating from Dartmouth College, he attended medical school at the University of Miami School of Medicine and completed his ophthalmology residency at the University of Pennsylvania, Scheie Eye Institute. He spent an additional year for subspecialty training in cornea and refractive surgery at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. During his corneal fellowship, he performed research on dry eye and blepharitis. Dr. Trattler has continued his involvement in research and has participated in numerous phase 3 and phase 4 studies in areas ranging from cataract and refractive surgery to dry eye and blepharitis.     

Dr. Trattler has authored many books, articles, and textbook chapters including Microbiology Made Ridiculously Simple, a textbook he helped coauthor that is used by medical, nursing, and veterinary students throughout the world. In 2002, Dr. Trattler received the Outstanding Young Ophthalmologist Leadership Award from the Florida Society of Ophthalmology. In 2006, he was named one of the top 50 Cataract & Refractive Surgery Opinion Leaders, as voted on by readers of Cataract & Refractive Surgery Today.     

Parag A. Majmudar, MD, is a fellowship-trained corneal and refractive surgery specialist. Raised primarily in New Jersey, Dr. Majmudar graduated with a bachelor of arts degree from Lehigh University in Bethlehem, PA, as part of an accelerated honors program in medical education. While at Lehigh University, Dr. Majmudar was elected as a member of the Phi Beta Kappa National Honor Society. After receiving his degree at the Medical College of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, where he was elected to the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society, Dr. Majmudar completed his ophthalmology residency at the University of Chicago. During his residency, he was elected chief resident by his teachers and peers.  He followed his residency with a subspecialty fellowship in cornea, external diseases, and refractive surgery at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago and joined Chicago Cornea Consultants, where he has been practicing since 1998. He has also maintained an academic affiliation at Rush Medical College, where he has attained the rank of associate professor of ophthalmology, and is active in the clinical and surgical education of the residents at Rush University Medical Center. He was also the codirector of the Rush University Corneal fellowship program.     

Dr. Majmudar is a highly regarded international lecturer and instructor on the subjects of corneal and refractive surgery. He is also an active participant in clinical research activities. Dr. Majmudar is an active member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery as well as the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and he recently received the Academy’s Achievement Award. He is an International Council Representative from the United States for the International Society of Refractive Surgery.   

Jodi I. Luchs, MD, FACS graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1987 and received his MD in 1991 from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York. He completed an internship at the Mount Sinai Medical Center and his ophthalmology residency at Long Island Jewish Medical Center. He was a fellow in cornea/external disease at Wills Eye Hospital. Following his training, Dr. Luchs joined South Shore Eye Care in 1996.    

Dr. Luchs is the Director of the Department of Refractive Surgery for the Long Island Jewish/North Shore University Health System, where he continues to be a member of the Cornea Service. He is also an assistant clinical professor of ophthalmology and visual sciences at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He has numerous publications on cornea, external diseases, and refractive surgery to his credit, including one textbook, and has lectured nationally and internationally. Dr. Luchs is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American College of Surgeons, and the Nassau Academy of Medicine. He is also a member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery as well as the International Society of Refractive Surgery.   

Tracy Schroeder Swartz, OD, MS, FAAO, currently serves as the Center Director of VisionAmerica in Huntsville, AL, where she practices consultative optometry, specializing in ocular surface disease and dry eye. Originally from Wisconsin, Dr. Swartz attended Indiana University School of Optometry, graduating in 1994.   

After completing her doctorate, she pursued a master’s degree in physiological optics, specializing in pediatrics. She served as faculty at the IU School of Optometry for 4 years and earned the Indiana chapter of the American Academy of Optometry Gordon Heath Fellowship, 1996.   

After completion of her master’s, she relocated to metro DC, where she specialized in refractive and corneal surgery. She later joined Wang Vision Institute in Nashville, Tenn. Here she served as Director of Clinical Operations, Residency Director for the Optometric Residency Program, and adjunct faculty to Indiana University School of Optometry. While there, she edited two textbooks with Ming Wang, MD, PhD: Corneal Topography in the Wavefront Era (SLACK Incorporated, Thorofare, NJ, 2006) and Irregular Astigmatism: Diagnosis and Treatment (SLACK Incorporated, Thorofare, NJ, 2007), as well as authoring numerous book chapters on refractive surgery, topography, aberrometry, and anterior segment disease. She served as coeditor for the literature review column for Cataract and Refractive Surgery Today from 2003 to 2008, and currently serves on the editorial board of Optometry Times. She is adjunct faculty for the School of Optometry at the University of Waterloo, and is on the board of the Optometric Council of Refractive Technology.
