Author Biography

Thomas G. Gunning, a former junior high English teacher and elementary school reading consultant, is Professor Emeritus, Southern Connecticut State University, where he was department chair and reading clinic director and is currently chairperson of the IRA Readability Special Interest Group. Gunning has conducted research on group reading inventories, vocabulary assessment, reading disabilities, intervention programs, response to intervention, decoding processes and strategies, readability, and literacy skills needed to cope with high-stakes tests.
