Author Biography

Betty Reid Mandell is Professor Emerita at Bridgewater State College. She has co-authored Introduction to Human Services: Policy and Practice, 7th ed., She has also published Welfare in America: Controlling the "Dangerous Classes," and Where Are the Children? A Class Analysis of Foster Care and Adoption. She is co-editor of New Politics. She has been a social worker in child welfare, mental health, and welfare agencies. She has been a welfare rights activist since the 1960s.
