Author Biography

Kathleen Ernst grew up in Maryland. The Baltimore Zoo turned a century old in 1967, when she was eight years old, and she has happy memories of visiting it with her family. She loved the barrel bridge in the children's area-and of course the monkeys and apes were some of her favorite animals. Today she and her husband live in Wisconsin. She is the author of three American Girl History Mysteries: Betrayal at Cross Creek; Whistler in the Dark, which was nominated for the 2003 Agatha Award for Best Children's/Young Adult Mystery; and Trouble at Fort La Pointe, a 2001 Edgar Award nominee for Best Children's Mystery. She has also written several young-adult novels set during the Civil War.
