Summary

Dante: Beyond the Commedia brings together three unusual works featuring Dante. A Question of the Water and of the Land is attributed to Dante, and was translated by Charles Hamilton Bromby in 1897. "Dante's Influence on American Writers: 1776-1976" includes papers read at the 1976 annual meeting of the Dante Society of America. The third work, "Dante and the 'Quest for Eloquence' in India's Vernacular Languages" explores parallels between the languages of the Italian peninsula, examined in detail by Dante in his De Vulgari Eloquentia, and the sixteen vernacular languages of India.
