Author Biography

Alan R. Kemp is Professor and Chair of the sociology department at Pierce College, Ft. Steilacoom, Washington, where he teaches a course on death, dying, and bereavement. He holds master’s degrees in social work and divinity. He earned his doctorate at the then amalgamated colleges of St. Stephen’s and St. Andrew’s in Edmonton, Alberta and Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. He has many years experience in teaching, ministry, and professional counseling. He is a licensed

mental health professional. He was among the last American advisors serving on “Swift Boats” (PCFs) in Vietnam. He lives with his wife, Claudia, and a menagerie of “critters” at their cabin on property in rural western Washington state.
