Summary

This new core textbook e book provides a comprehensive overview of psycho-social perspectives and principles in dementia care by drawing on a range of evidence including the lived experience of people with dementia and their families, practice wisdom, research evidence and scholarship across a range of settings. Its aims are to stimulate an appetite for knowledge generation and application of existing knowledge to policy and practice . It offers a critical appraisal of existing services and supports with respect to the extent to whichhow they address the rights and needs of people with dementia and their families, as well as it offers strategies for developing sustainable working practices that actively promote health and well being for all concerned, while celebrating diversity and ensuring equality.

Author Biography

Murna Downs is Chair in Dementia Studies and Head of the Bradford Dementia Group at Bradford University, UK.

..Barbara Bowers is a professor in the School of Nursing at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, USA and holds an adjunct position at the Australian Catholic University, Melbourne, Australia.
