Author Biography

David Burch is director of the Starpath School of Navigation in Seattle, Washington, and he has taught marine navigation to more than 15,000 students since the school's establishment in 1977. He received the Institute of Navigation's 1985 Superior Achievement Award for outstanding performance as a practicing navigator.

Burch has written for several boating magazines, including Sea Kayaker, on the subject of marine navigation and weather. He is a former Fulbright Scholar and a former member of the graduate faculty at the University of Washington; he holds a Ph.D. in physics from the University of Texas. With more than 65,000 miles of blue-water sailing and navigation experience behind him, Burch devotes his time to teaching and writing about navigation.
