Summary

Giving Life is a collection of compelling stories about organ transplantation. Each chapter chronicles a tale of how the life-saving technology has impacted life in a very personal way - including the author's own story of how he donated a kidney without knowing who would receive it. These inspirational stories help the reader learn about the need for organ transplantation, and include stories about: o Chris Klug, who had a liver transplant and went on to win an Olympic medal o Lyric Marie Benson, an inspirational actress who was just coming into her own when her life was tragically ended with a gunshot.o Catherine Herridge who donated a part of her liver to her infant son.o Deputy Surgeon General Dr. Kenneth Moritsugu who twice had to make a very difficult choice to donate the organs of a loved one.The beautiful illustrations by artist James A. Jackson help put a face to the science of transplantation. Faces of hope in a life restored with the gift of life, and faces of life cut short due to a sudden and tragic occurrence.Charts and information from the United Network for Organ Sharing and the National Kidney Foundation graphically define the need. Helpful guidelines tell the reader how to help assure his wishes are carried out at the time of death, and give comfort to family members.
