Summary

Inside Child Welfare is a true story that takes the reader into the child welfare system to experience and understand the child welfare system. The story begins with Jill's life in a white middle class neighborhood and how it changes when moved to a racially mixed neighborhood and schools during the late 60s. This drastic move changes the way Jill views the world and how it impacts her life. Then Jill marries only to learn that her husband is abusive and an addict. When she leaves him, he uses the child welfare system to control her and to get her to return to him. Eventually Jill wins custody of her children and starts a new life as a child welfare worker. The story continues with Jill's work as a child welfare caseworker with actual cases and how her experience assists her client's to make positive changes.
