The Laboratory Guide studies in detail several types of vertebrate and invertebrate embryos at various developmental stages -- e.g., frog, chick, pig and sea urchin embryos. It uses an abridged Hamburger and Hamilton stage series of chick development. Appendices provide an abridged Eyal-Giladi and Kochav stage series for very early chick development; and techniques for immunocytochemistry. The Laboratory Atlas provides detailed and informative illustrations for all organisms and all stages of development discussed in the Laboratory Guide, including basic line drawings, light photomicrographs of whole embryos, light micrographs of embryos injected to reveal specific systems and organs, and scanning electron micrographs of whole embryos, sectioned embryos and sliced embryos, among others.
