Summary

A politician and a journalist tackle the most important mission of their lives: stop the terrorism and definitively bring peace to Spain and reconciliation to the Basque Country. From the small village that gives this historical novel its name to the cast of characters that draw in readers from the very start, author Mª Ángeles López de Celis analyzes the Basque problem and its consequences, in particular the terrorist group Euskadi Ta Askatasuna (ETA), which has left a mark on governments and citizens for more than five decades. Aside from delving into questions such as What are the origins of the radical nationalist phenomenon and its armed struggle? What have been the stances of the different governments? How does the group choose its victims? What characteristics define the profile of an ETA member?, this novel is also a story about human relationships, fears, passions, and feelings that serve as a vehicle for the author to provide her personal vision of life, death, love, friendship, parenthood, and emigration. Through a gripping plot with an ending as unexpected as it is exciting, the moving story shows itself from the first page to be an homage to the victims of terrorism, their families, and those who sought peace and justice all those years. Precisely for the delicate nature of its content, this hopeful book will leave no one indifferent, describing the aftermath and consequences of terror and looking to the future for change and healing.
