Summary

This is self-taught 25 year old Canadian artist Aurel Schmidt¿s first comprehensive book documenting her drawings over the past five years. With over 60 works documented with many details to highlight the painstaking perfect detail with which they are drawn, MAN EATER comprises the 16 works exhibited at her solo exhibition at Deitch Projects, her first solo exhibition at Peres Projects in LA, her works from the Deste Museum in Athens, greece, and many more. Aurel Schmidt builds terrifying Archimboldo-esque babes out of the punkest junk around. With exquisitely rendered colored pencil and graphite, her drawings have ranged from forests of maggots and busts of tangled snakes, to faces and figures made of spiders, cockroaches, cum and discarded hamburger. Included in this book are also her BURNOUTS series of cigarette-burnt faces and PART MONSTER series depicting New York City nighlife gone wild. Essay by curator Kathy Grayson.
