Summary

Although there are a number of general medical and radiation oncology books, Pediatric Radiation Oncology was the first complete, definitive reference devoted specifically to the use of radiation therapy for treatment of childhood cancer. First published in 1986, this book has become the definitive book in the field. It is generally felt that in order to pass the pediatric section of the American Board of Radiology, this book must be read. Each chapter is devoted to a specific tumor type and can be read in one sitting. Tumors are discussed in terms of background information, diagnostic and staging studies, treatment strategy, and when and how to employ radiation therapy. Although chapters do reflect various management options where they exist, a recommendation by the author as to the best course of treatment is ultimately given.
