Summary

This book takes a pragmatic, hands-on approach to teaching advanced modern networking concepts from the network administrator's point of view. They will learn today's most valuable techniques for designing network infrastructure; configuring routers with RIPv2, OSPF, EIGRP, IS-IS, and BGP; using network management and analysis tools; running IPv6; networking Linux; securing networks, and using VoIP. This new Third Edition has been revised and reorganized to focus on introductory topics. A new chapter on network infrastructure design has been added. Network management coverage has been expanded significantly; for example, a new chapter on analyzing network data traffic has been added. The book's chapter on network security has been expanded to cover router and switch security, intrusion detection/prevention, VPNs, and wireless security. A new chapter has been added on IPv6 and the BGP coverage has been expanded. VoIP coverage has been updated, and a new chapter has been added on advanced networking that covers planning, appliances, technologies, and wireless networking.

Author Biography

Jeff Beasley is with the Department of Engineering Technology and Surveying Engineering
at New Mexico State University. He has been teaching with the department
since 1988 and is the co-author of Modern Electronic Communication and Electronic
Devices and Circuits and the author of Networking.
Piyasat Nilkaew is a Network Engineer with fifteen years of experience in network
management and consulting, and has extensive expertise in deploying and integrating
multi-protocol and multi-vendor data, voice, and video network solutions on limited
budgets.
