Author Biography

Gary W. Jay, MD, Daapm, Faapm, is Senior Director and Clinical Disease Area Expert-Pain, Pfizer, New London, Connecticut, USA. Dr. Jay received his M.D. from Northwestern University, Chicago, Illinois, USA. For nearly 30 years, he has worked in the field of pain medicine, both as a private practitioner who ran a tertiary care Interdisciplinary Pain Management Center, and was also a consultant to various pharmaceutical companies. He joined Pharma in 2005, but continued a part time consulting practice. He has been lecturing nationally and internationally for the past three decades. Dr. Jay is one of the founding members of the American Academy of Algology, in 1983, now known as the American Academy of Pain Medicine, and was the founder and first president of the Southern California Pain Society. A past president of the Florida Academy of Pain and President Elect of the American Academy of Pain management, Dr. Jay has published more than 75 book chapters and peer-reviewed journal articles concerning headache, pain of multiple etiologies, the autonomic nervous system, and mild traumatic brain injury. Dr. Jay is Editor of Clinician's Guide to Chronic Headache and Facial Pain, the companion text to Practical Guide to Chronic Pain Syndromes, as well as the author of The Headache Handbook (1999), Mild Traumatic Brain Injury (2000) and Chronic Pain (2007), all Informa Healthcare titles.
