Summary

This book explores the concept of "oddball" trout prey--which includes most of the important North American trout foods, minus the conventional "trout bugs": mayflies, caddis, and stoneflies. Anglers are familiar with most of the oddballs-grasshoppers, chironomids, damselflies--however they have not been the subject of any full-length angling/entomological evaluation until now. Other oddballs include: baitfish, dragonflies, crayfish, leeches, sow bugs, terrestrials, etc.; all of them are prey that have consistently proven themselves important to fishermen. For each food type there is a general discussion, thoughts on imitations (including tying and fishing techniques, reading water), the three things to keep in mind for both success and failure in your imitations, and many fly patterns. Show the trout something besides the triumvirate, odds are it will pay off.
