Reading for History in the Damascus Document : A Methodological Study

Thematic readings of the Damascus Document, in light of contemporary (audience-oriented) literary criticism, highlight the ideological structures of the text and allow for the development of an alternative approach to the history of ancient Jewish sectarianism.

Maxine L. Grossman is Associate Professor of Jewish Studies and Religious Studies in the Joseph and Rebecca Meyerhoff Center for Jewish Studies at the University of Maryland. She has published both technical and popular articles on the Dead Sea Scrolls, religious studies methodology, and religion and popular culture.
