Summary

Selecting the right rose for your garden can become an obsession. This is the plant that has everything -- beauty of form and colour, abundance of flowering, glorious perfume, varied seasonal interest, mystique, and, above all, versatility. No wonder that today's most influential garden designers are using roses in many of their projects -- public and private gardens that are formal, minimalist, exotic, naturalistic, and, quite often, controversial. In Roses in Modern Gardens, garden designer Sally Court looks at how cutting-edge designers such as Dan Kiley, Beth Chatto, Dan Pearson, Kathryn Gustafson, Pietro Porcinai, Gilles Clement, and Thomas Church have broken away from traditional planting concepts to use roses in new ways and often in unusual plant combinations in some of their most innovative designs. Illustrated by photographs of gardens all over the world, and including a directory of useful species and varieties of rose, this, the first book on roses in contemporary gardens, is an essential guide for rose lovers and general gardeners alike.
