Summary

On Friday 10 April 1998, after over 17 hours of talks at Stormont a multi-party agreement was reached that marked a turning point in the conflict over Northern Ireland. The Good Friday Agreement received overwhelming support from the people of both the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland, and heralded a fresh start for a region that had experienced more than 30 years of blood-shed and violence. But bombings, sectarian violence and political wranglings since the events at Stormont have revealed that there is still a long way to go before a lasting peace can be achieved.

In this book Terry McNeill introduces the reader to the history of the conflict in Northern Ireland and questions, given its long history of violence, what real effect political peace will have on the region.
