Summary

Augmented Reality is the blending of digital information in a real-world environment. Simply put, it's the combination of usable information into a real-world environment in real time. An easy example can be seen during any NFL football game where information about the game is digitally overlayed on the field as the players move and position themselves for the next play. This information "augments" what we're already seeing with added information that we as viewers would not otherwise see, but when we do it adds a great deal to the overall experience. With the explosive growth in mobile phone usage globally and the rapid rise in search engine technologies over the last decade, augmented reality (AR) is poised to be one of this decade's most disruptive technologies as the information that is constantly flowing around us is brought into view, in real-time, through augmented reality. In this cutting-edge book, the authors outline and discuss never-before-published information about augmented reality and its capabilities. The readers of this book are technology professionals in both the commercial and government sectors. The book provides and in-depth understanding of AR with coverage of mobile, desktop, developers, security, challenges, and gaming, and gives ideas ranging from new business applications to new crime fighting methods. Practical education on Augmented Reality and how best to use it regarless of industry Provides an in-depth understanding of AR and ideas ranging from new business applications to new crime fighting methods Includes actual examples and case studies from both private and government applications
