During Biblical and Prebiblical times, scribes were selected from good, educated families. Castration was part of the selection process, so not many people pursued this profession. Only ones with the love to write and knowledge of the great Books of Prophecies chose this pretigious position in the society. A few chose a darker side of the human life, trading in prostitution. Some built brothels near the temples and offered sex for a price, as a form of worship.
