Summary

In their own words, American police officers describe their life and work among misfits, junkies, prostitutes, killers, psychopaths, and victims in luxury neighborhoods and on the meanest turf. "For anybody who ever wondered what it's like behind a badge, this is the book".--San Francisco Chronicle.

Author Biography

Connie Fletcher developed an interest in crime during a typical Chicago girlhood, when her father, James T. Fletcher, took her every holiday to visit the site of the St. Valentine's Day Massacre and to finger the bullet holes left in the stones of Holy Name Cathedral, where Little Hymie Weiss was gunned down. Like her father, Fletcher was educated at Loyola University Chicago, where she is now an assistant professor in the Department of Communication, teaching journalism. She has a doctorate in English Literature from Northwestern University. Fletcher lives with her husband, Trygve, her daughter, Bridget, and her son, Nick, in Wilmette, Illinois.
