Excerpts

Introduction: The Un-Wild Boy, That’s Me

Wild was never my style.

I was the sort of twelve-year-old kid who was asked by adults to look after…their own twelve-year-old kids. When I played ice hockey on the hose-flooded rink behind the base’s Post Exchange (I was a military brat), I apologized after board-checking a forward from the other team. I was the adolescent who convinced his peers that breaking into the bowling alley after hours was a bad idea (I set pins, so I had a key). When a schoolyard fight broke out, I inevitably played peacemaker (though I did enjoy hugging a brawler’s tight-muscled body from behind).

And, a few years on, I always called back guys who gave me their phone number—even if that was the only connection we made. So polite.

An antonym for “wild”?

“Richard.”

Well, I did stray from the straight and narrow on occasion…precocious sex with young enlisted men when I delivered newspapers to their barracks rooms, trysts on the leather couch of my University Student Council President’s office with a night cleaner, occasional forays into Griffith Park after I moved to Los Angeles in 1979, interludes of a threeway with two professional dancers (lovely legs!), some nude Radical Faerie cavorting through the 1980s, an et cetera here and there…but nothing particularly wild.

I was (am…) the un-Wild Boy.

Which is why assembling the stories for this anthology was such vicarious fun.
Wild young guys hooking up with more mature men; straight-arrow black college boys getting it on with a Southern redneck; a college kid bowing to the will of a wheelchair-bound older man; a wistful cop trying to recapture lost love with a street hustler; a young man thrashing a suit-and-tie businessman eager, after all, for a good spanking; two martial artists determined to best each other under the merciless gaze of their master…men taming youths, youths bringing men to their knees, young men living on the wild side getting their comeuppance—or the man of their dreams. Enjoy your read on the wild side.
