Jim & Sonja, the 'wanna be' parents, met at the University of Massachusetts back in the fall of 1966. Even their chance meeting was a bit of a miracle in and of itself!
Both Jim & Sonja wanted to have children but by the end of 1971, all normal efforts to conceive were exhausted. Before thorough consideration of other options could be made, Jim received orders for SEA and left for his first B-52 wartime assignment in Vietnam in June 1972. Sonja traveled to Thailand to join Jim shortly after the start of his second tour of duty. Within thirty days following Sonja's arrival at Bangkok International, the hunt for an adoptable Thai baby was underway.
The search led them to Saint Mary's Orphanage in the Province of Udorn Thani some 300 plus miles from Jim's base of assignment U' Tapao RTAB. What followed was a series of what the couple call "Divine Interventions" which enabled the impossible adoption to become possible.
