The desolation at the news of the deadly crash was felt around the world—and led to major changes in the safety of racing cars and circuits.

Bruce Jones is a former editor of Autosport magazine. As well as the best-selling yearly BBC Sport Formula One Guide, Bruce has written numerous other books, including 60 Years of Formula One, The Treasures of Formula One, and the yearly BBC Sport World Formula One Records.
