“I started collecting these personal pieces because I felt they belonged back in our family. This collection represents something of great importance to me, as it is part of our history.”--Julian Lennon

Over the years, Julian Lennon--John's oldest son--has built a unique collection of Beatles memorabilia, including several gold records, cells from the film Yellow Submarine, guitars, clothing (such as John's Afghan coat from Magical Mystery Tour), jewelry, autographed books, handwritten lyrics, posters, and postcards. Now, for the first time, more than 100 of these personal treasures are displayed in print. Julian, working with well-known music author Brian Southall, provides insight into every one of these beloved pieces and explains what they mean to him--and the family memories they evoke.

Author Biography

Julian Lennon, the older son of John Lennon, debuted as a singer/songwriter at the age of 20 with the best-selling album Valotte. Since 1984, Julian has released four other critically acclaimed albums, and he has also appeared in movies and produced documentaries--most recently the award-winning Whaledreamers. Julian's current projects include a photographic exhibition and a new album entitled Everything Changes. Brian Southall began writing about pop music in the 1960s for a local newspaper before graduating to the likes of Melody Maker and Disc. He then pursued a 30-year career in the record business, working for A&M, Tamla Motown, EMI, and Warner Music. His first book--the official history of Abbey Road Studios--was published in 1982, and since then he has written The A-Z of Record Labels; Sex Pistols--90 Days at EMI; Northern Songs--the story of the Beatles music publishing; If You Don't Know Me By Now: the authorized story of Simply Red; Pop Goes To Court; and most recently The Rise & Fall of EMI.
