William Shakespeare; poet, playwright and actor, is perhaps the most prolific literary figure to feature within the British Library's collections, and indeed is often regarded as the greatest writer in the English Language. Shakespeare's works have been translated into every major living language, and he is today listed as the world's most quoted English writer.
