When the author's mother faded away into the wilderness of her mind and later died from dementia, the author began to examine the relationship between the challenges of the natural world with those that we encounter as human beings, hence the title.

The author's hope is that you will also discover amazing vistas from mountaintops and rainbows after the storm. This collection of poems offers fresh insights into the joys and challenges of living in the high desert and discovering the gifts of its wildness and wilderness.

Author Biography

Annemarie Marek believes that adventure and discovery begin when we follow our creative yearnings. A native Texan, Annemarie moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico where the wildness and wilderness of the high desert inspired her to write this collection of poems. An avid naturalist, Annemarie continues to explore the beauty and ruggedness of the West. She holds an M.A. in creative writing from the University of Dallas and a B.A. in Honors English from Georgetown University.
