Summary

A collection which represents years of struggle in the transgender, gender variant and queer liberation movements and the movement for the abolition of the prison industrial complex. Often discriminated against and harassed on the outside, time in prison can be especially difficult for this already marginalised group of people who may exist between the prison system's male/female institutions. Vulnerable to attack and often denied medical care or protection beyond segregation, they are often overlooked by mainstream rights campaigns.

Author Biography

Eric A. Stanley works at die intersections of radical trans/queer politics, theories of state violence, and visual culture. Eric is currently finishing a PhD in the History of Consciousness department at the University of California, Santa Cruz and organizes with Gay Shame in San Francisco. Along with Chris Vargas, Eric co-directed the films Homotopia and Criminal Queers. Nat Smith is a light-skinned Black, queer, gender variant nerd who loves camping, comics, animals, sci-fi, mathematical equations, and is proof that none of these things is antithetical to being from the 'hood. Nat is known to associate with such dangerous organizations as Critical Resistance and the Trans/Gender Variant and Intersex Justice Project.
