Author Biography

Nai-Ruenn Chen was lecturer in economics at Cornell University, the University of California, Berkeley, and research economist for the Committee on the Economy of China of the Social Science Research Council. In addition to this book, he is the author of Chinese Economic Statistics in the Maoist Era (Transaction). Walter Galenson (1914-1999) was Jacob Gould Schurman Professor of Economics at Cornell University. Previously, he was an economist for the United States Department of War and the Office of Strategic Studies. Some of his works include The Worlds Strongest Trade Unions, The Scandinavian Labor Movement, The United Brotherhood of Carpenters: The First Hundred Years, and Trade Union Democracy in Western Europe.
